To choose the best home warranty company and plan for your needs, you should know what is covered under the home warranty plans and what is not. To help you make the right choice, we researched the company’s coverage plans, pricing policy, as well as additional coverage, and compared these with the proposals of the company's competitors.
Unlike many other home warranty companies, American Residential Warranty offers five coverage plans to its customers: Kitchen Plus, Heating & Cooling, Platinum, Platinum Premier, and the 4-in-1 Bundle = Platinum Premier + Deluxe Advantage + Water and Sewer Lines + Ultimate Electronics Protection. The plans are priced at $457, $525, $589, $679, and $1,319 per year respectively. The company’s plans can be a good option for customers with different needs, as they can cover only kitchen appliances, heating and air conditioning systems, or both.
The Kitchen Plus Plan covers major kitchen appliances, such as kitchen exhaust fan, dishwasher, microwave, oven, disposal, and refrigerator. This type of plan best suits homeowners who only need coverage for their kitchen.
The Heating & Cooling Plan, as the name implies, provides coverage for the central home air conditioning system, heating system, whole house humidifier, water heater, along with the electrical system.
The Platinum Plan covers the same systems and appliances that both the Kitchen Plus Plan and the Heating & Cooling Plan do. So, this plan fits homeowners who want to feel secure in the proper operation of both the kitchen appliances and the heating and a/c systems in their home.
The Platinum Premier Plan provides coverage for the same items that the Platinum Plan does, plus ceiling fan, ductwork, plumbing stoppages, free-standing ice maker, and garage door opener.
And the last one, the 4-in-1 Bundle = Platinum Premier + Deluxe Advantage + Water and Sewer Lines + Ultimate Electronics Protection, covers PC and TV, in addition to the Platinum Premier Plan’s coverage. So, if the TV and PC are also important for you to be covered, you won’t go wrong by choosing this plan.
If any of these plans don’t cover some systems or appliances you need coverage for, you can add them separately for an extra charge. It includes air conditioner, ceiling fan, free-standing ice maker, heating system, plumbing, oven, refrigerator, and water heater.
Customers can choose month-to-month, quarterly, or annual payment plans. The deductible is $75, which is the average industry price. As for the coverage limits, American Residential Warranty offers $500 to $2,500, which is even higher than the limits offered by some industry giants such as Select Home Warranty with limits up to $2,000, or Choice Home Warranty at $1,500.
American Residential Warranty also provides an option to increase the coverage by selecting items from a predefined list of add-ons, the cost of which is $72 to almost $170. The additional coverage list consists of maintenance of well pump, pool or spa, pump, washer and dryer, external sewer line system, refrigerator ice maker, and an external water line system. The limits for add-ons are also high at $500 to $2,500.

It will be useful for you to also know not only what systems and appliances are covered by a home warranty company, but also what malfunctioning parts and components it covers.
Air Conditioning and Heating Systems
American Residential Warranty covers all parts and components essential for the a/c and heating systems functionality, including condensers, thermostats, relays, transformers, motors, compressors, and other elements. Be advised that improperly sized heating and cooling systems as well as free-standing or portable heat units will not be serviced.
There is also coverage available for accessible ductwork from the covered system unit to the point of attachment to registers or grills, and also all internal electrical parts and fan motors of the whole house humidifier.
American Residential Warranty covers malfunctions connected with all interior AC wiring, switches, fuses, single and two pole breakers. However, the company is not responsible for inadequate wiring capacity, power failure, shortage or power surge, as well as any damage or failure caused by circuit overload. Likewise, the warranty applies to ceiling fan motors and controls.
American Residential Warranty offers repairs for all interior plumbing including angle stops, risers, waste vents, p-trap assemblies, and interior hose bibs provided all piping and plumbing are inside of the foundation perimeter. If there is a necessity to clear mainline, sewer, and lateral drain line stoppages, the company will help you with this problem if it’s up to 100 feet from the access point. Note that the company won’t take responsibility for conditions of excessive or insufficient water pressure, as well as any repairs necessary to access interior lines or pipes.
American Residential Warranty provides coverage for all components important for the proper functioning of the main home appliances, such as motors, control boards, switches, relays, condensers, compressors, and other parts. Any cosmetic damages, which do not affect the operation of the equipment, such as scratches, dents, or chipping, are not protected by this company.
In addition to the items and systems listed above, American Residential Warranty’s plans can be extended with coverage for both pool and spa, well pump, pump, washer and dryer, external sewer line system, refrigerator ice maker, and an external water line system.
American Residential Warranty has accessible information about their terms and conditions. Our team did the best to provide you with the company’s regulations and to compare them to the industry standards.
The company’s services will be available 30 days after making a commitment, which is a longer period than most home warranty companies provide. Clients can cancel the contract with a refund within 30 days, which is the maximum period in the industry.
If you have a breakdown, you must inform the company representatives within just one day, which is less than the industry practice. Like most companies in the market, American Residential Warranty offerers an automatic policy renewal. However, according to the company’s conditions, you can cancel the renewal by paying a $49 fee, which is just a little less than the industry average. In case of an emergency situation, immediate service will be provided.
Unfortunately, if any repair made by the company’s contractor fails, the free reservice period for parts is only 60 days with 30 days for labor, which is less than most home warranty companies offer.
Since there is no data about the repair timeframes, you may face some inconvenience as unexpected repair delays may occur. There is also no data about the availability of a free second opinion in situations where you disagree with the contractor’s report.
Quotes from actual customer reviews:
I recently had my very old dishwasher stop working. ARW got someone out right away which I appreciated. They came and determined that it was actually an electrical problem. I called to update ARW as to what the appliance technician said regarding an electrical problem. Right away they assisted me and set up an electrician which was professional and walked through my problem with me and fixed it. I've already complimented that service but wanted to take the time to thank ARW for their attentiveness and concern for my problem. They moved the service fee over to the second call with I greatly appreciated. They were polite, professional and treated me like I was family. They demonstrated that they strive to not only provide and connect customers with professionals but believe that you should get the service you expect and pay for. Keep up the good work!! Thanks ARW.Really!!
I'm going to update my prior reviews to 3 stars. Although I've had my issues with ARW's service, I have to say that they showed some level of customer service with my recent issue. I was contacted again by Chris of ARW and he was very honest about previous challenges and lapses in communication. He then said he would look into my issues again and get back to me. Chris contacted me again via email the same day and resolved the issue to my satisfaction. My previous impression was that ARW was a company that was taking money without caring about the customer service experience. The fact that they followed up again, were forthright and honest about their shortcomings goes a long way towards restoring my confidence in them. I'm not looking for freebies but I do want a company that makes an effort to meet the expectations of their customers.
