Coverage Details

To get a better idea of what comprehensive home warranty coverage truly looks like, our team surveyed 1,000 homeowners and asked which systems and appliances were most valuable to them. Once the results were in, we took the responses and compared them to what each home warranty provider covers.

From our findings, we gathered that the top three appliances most important to a homeowner are the refrigerator, the oven/stove/range, and the clothes washer and dryer. The top three systems that hold the most importance are the electrical, plumbing, and air conditioning.

Refrigerator

The Gold Plan is Platinum Home Warranty’s only plan that offers refrigerator coverage. You can purchase a $79.00 add-on for the Bronze or Silver Plans. Refrigerator protection includes the ice maker and any other parts needed for it to operate properly.

However, it doesn’t cover cosmetic parts, like shelves and light bulbs. The coverage cap for your refrigerator is $2,500.00 per contract term.

Oven/range/stovetop

Platinum offers oven and range protection in all three of its plans. Like the refrigerator, certain parts aren’t included, like light bulbs, clocks, and magnetic induction units. The coverage cap is $1,500.00 for this item.

Clothes washer and dryer

Like the refrigerator, only the Gold Plan protects the washer and dryer, but you can add coverage to the other two plans for an additional $79.00. As long as the part is needed for your washer or dryer to run properly, it’s protected up to $1,500.00 per term.

Electrical

Electrical systems are included in all three of Platinum Home Warranty’s plans. Most electrical components are included in this coverage, minus smart systems, home security systems, lighting systems, gas fireplaces, and solar-powered systems, along with a few other cosmetic items like light bulbs. The cap is $1,500.00 per contract period.

Plumbing

All of Platinum’s plans offer plumbing protection, including coverage of blockages, leaks, and failures to items that make the system run. However, there are a lot of exclusions, including shower heads, tub stoppers, ejector pumps, water tanks, and toilet seats.

Coating, grouting, and caulking also aren’t covered, along with damage to pipes and fixtures from natural causes, like roots and minerals. The caps are $300.00 for toilet replacements, $500.00 for slab leaks, and $1,000.00 total per contract term.

Air conditioning

Air conditioning is protected in all three plans. This coverage is for thermostats, wiring, refrigerant leaks, ductwork, and other parts that help the air conditioner function. Excluded parts include window units, insulation, air filters, and more.

Air conditioning is paired with heating in the terms and conditions, meaning the coverage cap of $2,000.00 applies to both systems.

Coverage Length

Coverage starts on the day your application is approved and you’re given a confirmation number. For homes that didn’t get an inspection before purchasing a plan, this is 31 days after your close of escrow or when your first monthly or annual premium is paid. The contract lasts for one year, but if you don’t give the company written notice 30 days before the contract ends, Platinum will automatically renew your contract for another term.

Coverage Limits

Platinum Home Warranty has coverage caps for some of the items in the plans, indicating that there’s a maximum amount the company is willing to pay for repairs and replacements. If the repairs cost more than the coverage cap, the homeowner will have to pay the remaining amount. All of the caps for major systems and appliances are between $1,000.00–$2,000.00 per contract term. This is about on par with competitors such as Home Warranty Inc..

While not all of the items have coverage caps, they all have a list of parts that are excluded from coverage. This means that you may think you’re getting comprehensive coverage for your plumbing system, but in reality, it excludes major parts like water tanks, sinks, and pressure regulators.

Platinum also has limitations when it comes to replacing an irreparable item. For example, Platinum pays for a replacement with a similar brand, capacity, and efficiency, meaning you aren’t guaranteed the same dimensions, brands, or colors. To learn more about these limitations, view the terms and conditions listed on Platinum Home Warranty’s website.

State Availability of Platinum Home Warranty

Platinum Home Warranty only provides coverage to Arizona residents. If you live in one of the other 49 states, visit our state home warranty page to find a provider for your home.

Our Take

We believe Platinum Home Warranty is a viable option for Arizona residents who are looking for a personalized home warranty experience. Because Platinum is a small company, you get to talk to real representatives who understand how to protect your home.

The biggest downside to a plan with Platinum is that the refrigerator, washer, and dryer are only included in the Gold Plan. At first glance, the plans look affordable with the Bronze Plan being under $50 per month and the Silver Plan being just over $50 per month.

However, if you want coverage for all of the big items in your home, you have to pay more than $70 per month through the Gold Plan or purchase add-ons. This makes its comprehensive coverage far more expensive than big names like American Home Shield and Choice Home Warranty.

We applaud Platinum on providing coverage for items not commonly found in home warranty plans like doorbells, pest control, and light fixtures. This sort of coverage allows customers to protect more areas of their home.

However, we want to point out that while the list of covered items seems extensive, the sample contract lists a lot of excluded components for each item, meaning that your systems and appliances aren’t as protected as it may seem.

We think it’s worthwhile to call Platinum for a free quote if you’re interested in Arizona home warranty coverage. Because of the small company culture, you’ll be able to talk to a representative who will break down the plans and make sure you understand what is and isn’t covered, and who can help you decide if a Platinum warranty is what’s best for your home.

Frequently Asked Questions About Platinum Home Warranty

What is Platinum Home Warranty’s warranty on work performed?

Platinum Home Warranty has a 30-day warranty, meaning that if you have a repair done to a specific item, and the item breaks again during the following 30 days, the company will not charge you a second service fee to send another technician to refix it. Other companies call this a “service guarantee.”

The only exclusion to this warranty is with pest control. Each time a technician comes to your home to treat pests, you must pay the service fee.

When does Platinum Home Warranty use other companies instead of its own service contractors?

Platinum Home Warranty uses its own technicians for almost all of service calls. There are two occasions when the company will contract out: for repairs on items, like pools and roofs, that the company doesn’t have expertise in and when all of the Platinum technicians are busy.

When can you call Platinum Home Warranty to request service?

You can call Platinum Home Warranty 24/7, but the response time will depend on if the call is inside or outside of business hours. The company has business hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. If you call during that time, your claim will be processed faster. If you call after hours, a live operator will answer.

If your request is classified as an emergency, you will be dispatched to the on-call technician for faster service. If your request is not urgent, the operator will take note of your request, and it will be processed the next business day.

How quickly does Platinum Home Warranty fulfill a service request?

Platinum Home Warranty does its best to ensure that customers receive a technician visit within 24 hours after you report an issue or during the next business day if the breakdown occurs during the weekend.
